Fight Insomnia The Natural Way

Been daydreaming about sleep lately? We’ve all been there. Here are a few easy food ideas that you can munch on two hours before bed. I’ve tried them..and they work!



<—–Almonds provide the body with magnesium and proteins. Magnesium promotes muscle relaxation and proteins can assist the body in stabilizing your blood sugar level while you sleep. Proteins can also help the body switch from the “adrenaline” cycle to the “relax” cycle throughout the night. Plus, they are inexpensive and really tasty!!










<—–Chamomile tea helps the body release melatonin, which is a calming hormone that the body produces naturally. Be sure not to add too many sweeteners (nonfat or other) inside, otherwise you’ll be wide awake instead of fast asleep. Make sure your tea is decaf or has no caffeine at all









<—-Bananas are another source of magnesium which are cheap, quick to grab and quick to eat. Bananas also contain potassium which helps our muscles to relax and destress the brain.








<—-Oatmeal is full of calcium, potassium and magnesium: all three which promote great sleep. It’s a win-win!








If you’re finding it difficult to doze off but don’t want to buy anything over the counter, I’ve found a few herbs/roots that have done wonders for me when I can’t sleep. They are all natural and readily available at your local farmers market, Whole Foods, Trader Joes or similar stores.

1. Kava root

2. St. Johns Wort

3. Valerian

**I believe these three are the most potent of all roots, but will not leave you groggy in the morning.**
