The week of Saturday July 13th-Sunday July 21stwe have Venus making her last hoorah in seductive Leo before transitioning into conservative Virgo while Mars is just getting his feet wet in the Water family with the Crab. When looking at compatibility between signs, most people are only concerned with their Sun signs, but there is so much more to analyze! The Venus and Mars sign also play a pivotal role in how we behave in relationships. Our natal Venus sign (or the sign Venus was positioned in on the day of our birth) describes what we value in our partnerships and how we express those romantic values to our mates. When Venus is not positioned in our natal sign, but a complementary sign, it is still considered favorable to our love life. Conversely, our natal Mars sign reveals our sexual energy and compatibility with our mates? What serves as sexual motivation for us and how do we express that to our partners?
With Venus in fiery Leo and Mars in passive Cancer, the week of the 13th-21st may be a hot and cold affair. Our romantic ideals [Venus] are quite different from our sexual needs [Mars] during this period. Leo and Cancer are of different elements [Fire and Water, respectively] as well as different qualities[Fixed and Cardinal, respectively] so murky waters lie ahead.
When looking at relationships/romantic compatibility/synastry, Mars may be the planet of motivation and energy but he derives a lot of his vitality from Venus. This is especially true when both planets are harmoniously aspected. In nature, Water has the ability to diminish and eliminate Fire so a delicate balance must be struck in our partnerships. I despise when I come across sites which label one sign as being more jealous than the other: it’s all foolishness. The truth is, ALL signs have the ability to experience jealousy and possessiveness—-the key is understanding that each sign expresses this jealousy differently. Venus in Leo encourages us to be bold and overt in our displays of frustration with our partners while Mars in Cancer encourages reservation accompanied by sulking.
We may find that continuous praise and adoration from our partners supports our romantic value of feeling supported; we may be very generous and affectionate with our mates because of this. But sexually, we may not necessarily need praise. From a sexual perspective, Mars in Cancer encourages solid emotional connections with your sex mate. Venus in Leo encourages brazenly seductive tactics to get our love interest to pay attention to us, right before we romance them into our sheets.
I’d like to think that this transit is favorable to those with their Venus sign positioned in the Air or Fire family; and those with their Mars sign positioned in the Earth or Water family.
