On Monday July 22nd, Leo moves back into the cosmic spotlight. The Sun actually serves as the home planet of Leo: meaning the “personality traits” of the Sun (such as being generous, courageous, fearless) mesh brilliantly with the “characteristics” of the Lion. In astrology, the Sun manages how we view ourselves and the best way to project that self-image to others; in essence, the Sun helps us reveal to the world our true core and what really makes us tick. For a Sun in Leo native, their core is best showcased when they’ve been given freedom to creatively express themselves. Leisure/recreational activities, all things entertainment related, sports as well as anything connected to romance are top priorities for Leos! [It’s no wonder why most people with Leo somewhere in their personal planets are extremely social and hard-core sports fans!]

So how exactly does that translate for you? Well the Sun’s travels through Leo greatly benefit those with a Sun/Moon or Ascendant in the Air of Fire family —since those three aspects of astrology deal closest with our overall personality or demeanor than any other planet. While the Sun is in ego, we are all encouraged to take on some of the traits of the Lion. We may all be a bit more extroverted than usual, feel a bit more generous with our friends & family, and are encouraged to be social butterflies. Getting out, being seen on the scene and interacting closely with the ones we care about are all important priorities for Leo.

Positively, as a Fire sign, Leo is extraordinarily passionate and enthusiastic; as a Fixed sign, Leo can be tenacious, finding it easy to concentrate their energy into one goal, idea or project. Negatively, as a Fire sign, Leo can be impulsive and immensely childish; as a Fixed sign, they can be stubborn and inflexible. When the Sun poorly angles other planets, we may act irrationally and uncontrollably in our personal lives—a common response from Fire signs. We can compare this to sulking and turning inward when the Sun in Cancer made hard angles to other planets. [A little trick to remember: Fire and Air signs tend to explode; Water and Earth signs normally implode].

Now, the Sun joins Uranus (currently positioned in Aries) in the lone Fire Cosmic Club since they are the only two occupying that element. And with so many planets currently passing through Earth and Water signs, this break from our sensitivities may be graciously appreciated. Over the next four weeks, the Sun in Leo will make harmonious angles to Uranus providing us with the gusto to confidently assert ourselves. When disharmoniously angled, we may behave selfishly, egotistically and very immaturely.
