Wednesday Sept 11th: Venus in Scorpio

On Wednesday September 11th, Venus leaves her home in Libra to transition into seductive Scorpio. Astrologically speaking Venus governs our romantic and financial dealings—more so the former. Venus reveals what we value in our love partnerships and how we project these values on our (potential) partners. Venus is in her “detriment” , or weakest position, when traveling through Scorpio. This is because the traits that astrologers link to Venus (for example, diplomacy, luxury, compromise, etc.) are dissimilar to the constellation. In this case, Scorpio isn’t a sign to compromise: they want what they want when they want it and how they want it…or else! Scorpio is a very private sign, while astrologers believe Venus is a very open and free-spirited planet. You see the dissonance? Venus in Scorpio natives can be forceful and controlling lovers if not balanced out by their Sun/Moon sign—therefore, it’s only natural that we all experience a bit of this in our partnerships over the next four weeks.

Positively, Venus in Scorpio compels us to push for those all encompassing relationships that are emotionally consuming (and draining for the light-hearted). To be honest, the Venus in Scorpio transit (and Venus in Scorpio lover for that matter) isn’t for the weak! As a Water sign, Scorpio looks for deep emotional connections: this becomes a priority in our romantic dealings—we want to feel special to at least someone. As a Fixed sign, Scorpio is stable: making it important for us to find steadiness and constancy with our lovers. This Water-Fixed combination makes Scorpio the most loyal of all the signs—-and I’ve noticed this trend with a lot of my clients with this placement in their natal charts. Negatively, Venus in Scorpio transits make it difficult to compromise and cooperate with our partners, instead preferring to force our will on our mates. Scorpio isn’t one to back down and this can create a large bout of tension if unchecked. Scorpio also has the ability to obsess over things—feeling easily slighted unnecessarily. The downside to Venus in Scorpio is the bout of paranoia that may seep into our unions: the suspicious nature of the Scorpion is intense.

It’s also quite likely that secret relationships and hidden love affairs crop up during this period—-or intensify during this period. Seductive Scorpio is a mysterious sign and with the love planet stationed here, it’s rather easy to attract (or find yourself attracted to) a mystifying character—especially behind closed doors. If you’ve been looking to solidify a relationship and were unable to do so when Venus traveled through Libra, it’d be best to try once more while Venus is in Scorpio. Once Sagittarius enters the picture on October 7th, we may actually attempt to break free from romantic constraints.

Here’s an interesting tidbit that you may (or may not) be interested in: In Greek mythology, sirens , also called sea nymphs, were beautiful women who sang alluring songs in reefs near tumultuous waves. As the legend goes, the voices of these mystical creatures were so irresistible that sailors were hypnotized by the sounds. Essentially, their voices led to the deaths of thousands of men, whose boats crashed against the jagged rocks. They perished from drowning, starvation or dehydration. This myth reminds me very much of Watery Scorpio, finding power in controlling the lives of men. Just as these sea nymphs were illusive to the Greeks, to cross them was deadly. Sounds just like a Scorpio you know, huh?

Those with their Sun, Ascendant and/or Venus in siren Scorpio will feel the impact of this transition the most: you all may feel as if the world is finally speaking your “love language.” This is followed by those with their Sun, Ascendant and/or Venus in Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Capricorn and Pisces: you all may feel comfortable in the stability offered by the Scorpion. Lastly, those with their Sun, Ascendant and/or Venus in the Fire and Air family may feel a bit uncomfortable with the itch to contain and be contained. [and since I’m a Sun in Virgo, Scorpio Ascendant—-I’m certain my controlling tendencies will only exacerbate under this transit *sigh*]
