On Monday October 7th, Venus slinks out of Scorpio and into spirited Sagittarius. In astrology, the planet Venus governs romance and finance. The constellation the planet moves through on the date of our birth is said to uncover what we value romantically and how we express these values; thus, as Venus transits signs other than our natal sign, the energy can be harmonious or dissonant with how we naturally express ourselves in love matters. In terms of characteristics, Scorpio and Sagittarius express themselves completely differently, shaking up how we approach partnerships over the next few weeks.
In Scorpio, Venus behaves possessively—and intensely so. Those born with their Venus positioned in the Scorpion find deep romantic satisfaction when intimately intertwined with their partners both emotionally and physically. Naturally, when Venus returns here every year, the cosmic energy shifts and encourages us to value these things in our own partnerships—at least temporarily. Venus in Scorpio furthers the need for an all-consuming relationship: commitment and loyalty reign paramount for this Water sign. Additionally, as a Fixed sign, Scorpio can be very persistent (or stubborn, depending on who you ask J). Conversely, Venus in Scorpio is a persistent lover: with the ability to love endlessly and consistently. Thus, these traits reemerge in our own partnerships when Venus passes here. Sagittarius, on the other hand, is a liberated lover: valuing relationships in which they feel comfortable enough to grow towards the horizon and satiate any curiosities they have. When Venus positions herself in Sagittarius, the powerfully secretive mannerisms of Scorpio are washed away into something much more light and expansive. Sagittarius values relationships in which they can share cultural/philosophical/religious/ethical/legal/educational/travel interests with their mates. This value is expressed in a friendly demeanor; it’s very similar to a “brotherly love” versus a hot and heavy emotional connection.
When traveling through Sagittarius, Venus possesses a deep need for variety and something new: as a result, this open-mindedness can find its way in our own love unions over the next few weeks. Clingy, over-involved lovers aren’t welcomed here (which could explain why those with their Sun and/or Venus sign in the Earth and Water families may feel a bit uncomfortable with the energy shifts in their relationships). This Venus in Sagittarius transit serves as a perfect opportunity to spice things up if they became a bit stagnant under Fixed Scorpio. If you’re currently single or in those early stages of a “situationship” (you know, when you guys aren’t just friends but not necessarily monogamous), this isn’t the best time to solidify a relationship. As a Mutable sign, Sagittarius is expansive and changeable: what may suit the Archer one day may bore him the next —-this is actually a common trait among all Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces). And with Venus here, we see this characteristic primarily in our love connections. Venus in Sagittarius is charming, social and VERY flirtatious. Next to Leo, Sagittarius is the most romantic of the fiery group: finding great pleasure in courting as many people as possible. Remember that “variety” I spoke of earlier? We can find that here! The Adventurous Archer doesn’t place much emphasis on long term commitment; so it’s quite possible that many of you (especially those with a Sun and/or Venus sign in the Air or Fire family), may fall into casual romantic affairs that end just as Venus leaves Sag and enters Cap in a few weeks.
The Gemini-Sagittarius duo in the zodiac cycle exist as the “communication axis.” There’s a deep need to gather and share information between this pair so when Venus passes through either sign, the yearning to interact with others romantically strengthens. These guys need new experiences to maintain their level of interest in the relationship otherwise, they are prone to vanish without a forewarning. Venus in Sagittarius requires a lover who is ready to travel spontaneously, visit that new Thai restaurant downtown, bungee jump and sky-dive. All of our love bonds during this transit may too require invigoration and stimulation. Again, this dynamic cosmic change best benefits those with their Sun and/or Venus sign in Gemini or Sagittarius; followed by Leo, Libra, Aquarius and Aries. Those least benefited by this transition is Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces. For the latter group, Venus in Sagittarius may push you all out of your comfort zone, encouraging you to live and love fearlessly.
