Friday Oct 18th: Lunar Eclipse in Aries

Tomorrow, on Friday Oct 18th, we have a Lunar Eclipse in Aries ! Of all Moon occurrences, the eclipse (both Solar and Lunar) can stir up deeply hidden emotions within all of us. It’s primarily believed that Lunar changes can disturb, even if only slightly, electromagnetic waves here on Earth. With the Lunar Eclipse in particular, however, there’s a heavy weight placed on interpersonal relationships and interactions with those in our immediate environments. On Friday, the Sun will still transit through Libra while the Moon passes through Aries. Remember, these guys are polar opposites. Opposition in the skies between cosmic bodies requires some sort of balance between the two forces. The last Lunar Eclipse we had was in May (in Sagittarius, thus impacting Mutable signs greatly: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces). Therefore, the Moon hasn’t been as potent as it will be tomorrow since Spring!

Additionally, in astrology, the Lunar Eclipse offers endingsepiphaniesrevelations and new perspectives on particular issues in our lives. Ultimately, you can look at this date —and the days following the eclipse—marking the culmination of something and can should be viewed as a period of “enlightenment.” More importantly, the Lunar Eclipse encourages us to accept the outcome of certain situations/decisions that have manifested since our last eclipse (in May 2013). Truths that were hidden (even in plain sight) are revealed. The battle between independence and cooperation crystalizes as the balance to be created between Aries and Libra. The polarity of this union is literally the fusion of “me” and “us.” The Ram is the FIRST sign of the zodiac, theFIRST Cardinal sign and the FIRST Fire sign. Naturally, Aries needs to be FIRST at everything in life. This showy attitude often rubs the much gentler Libra the wrong way. Conversely, The Scales are often attributed as being the sign of partnerships and signal the beginning of the “impersonal signs”. Essentially, Libra searches for the best opportunities to display their “we” instead of “me” preference —which creates tension with Aries. The balance required between them? Libra works to refine Aries in the best way possible. Those uncouth habits and selfish mannerisms can only get you so far in life. In this duo, intellectual and socially graceful Libra brings an air of charm to the party. Unfortunately, it’s quite easy for Libra to be withheld, indecisive and submissive in an effort to avoid stepping on toes and fingers. Here is where Aries brings in the  big guns and assertiveness. When Libra promotes compromise, Aries yells for independence: this is the game they play and ultimately the game we will ALL play over the next few days. Aries is a warrior, and Libra is a lover. The question is, what/who will YOU find worth fighting for?

What’s also interesting to note is that in addition to the Moon trapezing through Aries, we also have the ultimate fire-starter, Uranus, moving through this sign as well. [And for you English language Nazis, no, I did not mean “traipsing” , but “trapezing 🙂 ] Astrologically speaking, Uranus disrupts the status quo, veers away from the conventional, encourages active rebellion and finds great delight in challenging authority. When Uranus and the Moon conjoin in the same sign, rebellion and surefire restlessness can be expected. This duo integrates a strong need to be in complete control of our lives: bowing out is NOT an option when the two emotionally volatile planets enter a defiant sign like the Ram. Again, the orthodox, traditional and bland lack appeal to us over the next few days and we passionately resist all efforts to conform. We may all feel emotionally unpredictable at times, but positively, we are extremely expressive (thanks to the Aries influence). I’d like to think this is one of the more powerful interactions between the Moon and other astral bodies simply because Uranus cannot be tamed or controlled. Both the Moon and Uranus are easily excitable, leading to dangerously determined actions with catastrophic consequences in our own lives. And generally, Fire signs are well known for their spiritedness, so this should be expected (and accepted) between now and Sunday when the Moon will shift gears into grounded Taurus.

This combo touches each Sun/Moon sign differently. For example, Libra natives may resist any unfavorable changes to their partnerships and romantic unions: seemingly unwilling to give up THEIR needs in exchange for their partner’s needs; while Cancer natives may find themselves vehemently against structure in their career space that compromises their individuality; even Aquarians may feel extremely sensitive regarding how they express themselves in both oral & written form over the next few days: refusing to negotiate their identity or presentation of self.

Those with a Sun and/or Moon and/or Ascendant in Libra or Aries will feel the brunt of this lunar event more intensely than the rest of us. Those with a Sun and/or Moon and/or Ascendant sign in the other two Cardinal members (Cancer & Capricorn) may also feel the eclipse: albeit less intensely as Aries-Libra but more intensely than those of us who fall in none of the aforementioned groups.
