Happy New Year! (well for the second time , at least)

Today, the Sun moves into fire-starter Aries and marks the dawn of spring in a few days (March 23rd). Whenever the Sun travels through Cardinal signs, it signals the onset of a new season. For this reason, astrologers tie Cardinals with “initiation”, “new beginnings”, “trailblazing” and “leadership.” Ironically, on January 1st, the Sun is in Cardinal Capricorn (which is why this is a great time for “new” year’s resolutions/changes). The zodiac, however, actually starts during the period of Aries (which is why it’s the first sign of the cosmos)!

Cardinal Aries highlights the symbolic planting of seeds to be reaped when the Sun moves into Fixed Taurus next month. Throughout the Sun’s journey here, we are all bustling with new ideas, and the need to reassess our personal goals—-especially those we’ve been itching to implement in recent weeks. As the first sign of the cosmos, it’s only natural for this placement to include a bit of a “me first!” attitude. Subsequently, we want to focus on “self” and what “self” needs/wants at this time. This quality is amplified for those natives with a Sun or Ascendant sign in Aries; for those of us without, we temporarily take on these traits as the Sun shifts our energy. This spirit is quite different from Mutable Pisces, which prompted us to “wrap things up” or “evolve” things in the past four weeks. When the Sun was in Pisces, this was definitely a period for us to reflect and replenish. Fiery Aries encourages us to remain active, engaged and vigilant! We want to let our presence be known and don’t care who’s bothered by it. Sun in Pisces fixates on what’s best for others, Sun in Aries fixates on what’s best for me. Ultimately, this is a transfer from being selfless to selfish (which isn’t entirely a bad thing).

In astrology, the Sun’s role is to reveal the true needs of our core, how we stimulate our egos and ultimately, how we express our personality to others. For those with their Sun sign in Aries, the ego is normally channeled into pursuits that further their own goals and agendas (the theory of “self-preservation” never applied to aptly). Solarian Arians also look for environments in which they can lead, guide and blaze new paths: more so than any other sign, Arians are optimistic leaders! So what does that mean for the rest of us ? Over the next four weeks, the Sun in Aries energizes us to be daring, bold and enthusiastic. This is a time to strive for regaining control over our personal lives and assert our identities. We search for opportunities to be independent , if not the BOSS: following the rules is no fun if we aren’t the ones making the rules!

In addition to being a self-motivating Cardinal sign, the Ram is also a member of the Fire family. Generally speaking, Fire signs are gregarious, social and warm by nature. Positively, when the Sun moves through Fire signs, we become zealous, passionate and fiery! Negatively, we can be reckless, inconsiderate, and impulsive in nature.

The Sun in Aries transition is BEST for individuals with a Sun or Ascendant sign in Aries, Libra, Leo, Gemini , Sagittarius and Aquarius. This is because the traits of Aries are quite similar or run parallel to the latter signs, thus, the energy expressed is comfortable for those signs. This transition is least beneficial for individuals with their Sun and/or Ascendant in Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces.
