Sunday October 26th: Mars in Capricorn

On Sunday October 26th, the planet of energy and drive zips into Earth Capricorn. In astrology, the natal Mars represents how we express our aims and ambitions, the areas of our lives where we are most inclined to create goals and our overall life force: basically, how do we exert energy? When Mars travels through signs complementary to our natal one, good things usually follow! When traveling through signs noncomplementary to our own, challenges surrounding our goals should be expected. With Mars in Capricorn, there’s a distinct emphasis on social status; wealth; material/financial security; public persona or the professional image and leadership. These will be recurring themes for most of us during this Mars in Capricorn transition–albeit it in different ways based on your individualized natal chart.

In Capricorn, Mars is sensible and level-headed—thanks to its Earth quality. For those with a natal Mars in Earth sign, you are probably quite familiar with the natural hyperfocus on the tangible, tested, tried and true method of goal setting. But for those with other elemental placements, the next six weeks offer a wonderful opportunity to explore a much more practical methodology of getting down to business. While Mars traverses Capricorn, we are all prompted to create goals that provide material rewards along with verifiable proof of success: unrealistic aims are shot down with this sign. This is quite different from our most recent Mars in Sagittarius transit: which emboldened us to think big about the possibilities! Instead, Capricorn pays little attention to the abstract and more to the concrete. It’s also a prime time to get “hands-on” to actualize those goals—-something that should be expected with physical driven Earth signs. Channeling your energy pragmatically seems much easier over the coming weeks; we may all be drawn to projects or tasks that show immediate impact. Mars in Capricorn is the King of the “Here and Now.”

Generally speaking, Mars is the ruler of Aries: the FIRST zodiac sign, the FIRST Fire sign and the FIRST Cardinal sign—-with the last one being most important for this article. Capricorn is also a Cardinal sign and this modality (also encompassing Cancer and Libra) represents leadership and taking charge. With Mars moving through Cardinal Capricorn, there’s incentive to take back the reins on projects that help you attain an end-goal. The primary challenge when Mars vacations in one of the four Cardinal signs is impulsivity. Cardinal signs are all about action! So while Mars in Capricorn definitely promotes getting in gear and making things happen, it can also point to acting before a viable plan is in place.

Over the next four weeks, Mars guides us to take initiative but be smart as we push forward with our goals and realize personal aims.

Those with a natal Sun sign and/or natal Mars sign in Capricorn benefit greatly from this 6 week transition! This is a period in which you find it easy to promote your personal agenda—particularly as it relates to your professional or public image. You are increasingly aware of how others perceive you and work hard to present yourself as responsible, reliable and capable (which are traits astrologers often attach to this Earth sign, anyhow). Mars energizes you to redirect your attention to material and financial security; expanding your wealth to increase your social status (or vice versa) become extremely important now.

Those with a natal Sun sign and/or natal Mars sign in Cancer become unusually preoccupied with “another.” Capricorn is your polar opposite; with Mars moving through your “significant other” sector, you are increasingly motivated by beginning a relationship. This partnership can be an intimate business union where money is shared between yourself and another or an intimate romantic union. Remember, I mentioned astrologers link Capricorn with wealth, social status and professional image. As a result, you may be drawn to partnerships that elevate your social status OR may find potential mates are attracted to you because of your social status. Mars in Earth Capricorn guides you to take a practical approach to this relationship in order for it to thrive.
